Equipment – check out the variety of equipment on offer. Are they kept in a reasonable condition? Are they well organised on the floor to allow easy access and do they have enough for all the participants in the class? Is there a good range of equipment to get a total body workout without doing the same exercises every class?
Class Schedule – do the class times on offer work in with your schedule? Are there plenty of options for different class times? Is there a good range of classes? When you start you will be doing Beginner classes but as your progress, will the different levels class times suit you?
Programming – this is vital when choosing the right gym. Programming should be well thought out and planned and should take into consideration all fitness levels. There needs to be the right balance so it is different levels of intensity throughout the session. You can’t be expected to go hard-core from start to finish or you risk injury. Your body needs enough time to be able to rest in between sets. There also needs to be enough variety each session to keep you from getting bored by doing the same routine every time.
Coaching Staff – finding the right coach can really make or break the CrossFit training experience for you. While it is essential to have the relevant experience and qualifications, it is just as important to have good communication skills and class management skills. You need to feel like you can trust them to inspire you to achieve your fitness goals.
Budget – work out what you can afford and what you are willing to spend. While this is an investment into your health, you also need to get value for the money that you pay. Look into the different membership options on offer and find out what is included. A lot of CrossFit gyms in Sydney CBD now offer nutrition and lifestyle coaching to ensure you get the best results and achieve your goals. Community – a huge factor in the success of CrossFit has to be the community that is created within the gym. There is nothing that will push you to work harder than having people on the sidelines cheering you on and celebrating with you when you achieve your goals. There is a great support network amongst the members in providing moral and verbal support and this is a huge motivator. While you are walking around the floor, you get a good feel about the culture of the gym. Listen to how the members interact with each other.
